Surety Bond Information for Reconstruction Efforts Due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita

CNA Surety is committed to helping our customers and partners in the southeastern United States rebuild after the recent devastating storms. Surety bonds, such as bid, performance, contract, subcontract and license and permit bonds, used to protect the taxpayer and consumer against poor performance, non-performance and unscrupulous performers have always played an important role, and will continue to do so with the massive rebuilding now under way. CNA Surety, as one of the nation’s largest providers of surety bonds, pledges to do its part in the reconstruction efforts to provide protection to taxpayers and consumers through its surety bonds.

Many government officials and consumers may have questions about the bonds that contractors are posting for both large and small reconstruction projects. CNA Surety wants to do its part to ensure that people are confident that the bonds being posted by contractors have actually been issued by our Company. Inquiries regarding the validity of bonds can be submitted to our Company by:

  • Sending an e-mail to info@cnasurety.com; or
  • Contacting Carol Abel in our Chicago Home Office at (312) 822-5199 if you wish to talk to someone directly.

To help us respond to your inquiry quickly and accurately, please be prepared to provide the following information (if available):

  • Name of the company (contractor/bond principal);
  • Address of the company;
  • Phone number of the company;
  • Owner's name; and
  • Bond number.

This verification process can be used for any of the following companies:

  • Western Surety Company (WSC)
  • Surety Bonding Company of America (SBCA)
  • Universal Surety of America (USA)
  • Continental Casualty Company (CCC)
  • American Casualty Company of Reading, PA (ACCO)
  • National Fire Insurance Company of Hartford (NFIC)
  • Firemen’s Insurance Company of Newark, NJ (FIC)
  • Continental Insurance Company (CIC)

Our goal is to ensure that you and your taxpayers and consumers are dealing only with reputable companies with valid bonds. We hope you will find this information useful as you proceed with the tremendous task of reconstruction.
